What I've noticed about these devices with my three year old is that they have an addictive quality. He's learned how to look at the photo album on my phone, and when he does it he seems to get into a trance where he is more interested in moving on to the next image than he is in seeing any one image. It becomes about consuming all the images possible, not appreciating any one, and he can keep flipping through the photos for quite a long time. I can't think of anything in the analog world that has quite the same effect on him, and it doesn't seem healthy.

I always remember a wise person saying, "When you listen to someone, everything they say before the 'but' can be ignored."

Thank you to all that came out to view the film last night. It was so inspiring to see our community come together through sponsorship, volunteerism, and support for such an important cause.
I look forward to hearing about your kindness adventures and activities.

"Fench fies fench fies fench fies..." -- a well-chosen morsel of dialogue to balance this heart-rending story! What kid, French or American, handicapped or not, can't relate to the gustatory joy of "les frites"? Such enthusiasm is one way to warm a parent's heart (and kisses and "I love you" won't be long in coming, we hope.)

Bravo, Papa Fournier. Courage to you and your family.

Great ideas! My friend and I started a laundry service from our homes a few years ago. We found a little tip that we use on every load now. White vinegar. Add 3/4 cup into the rinse cycle and it acts as a natural fabric softner, saves money, is eco-friendly and helps keep your washing machine clean.

Here's the thing. Our kids grow up. They will always discover that we lied. It will undoubtedly build a wall, not a bridge. But, like anything else with parenting, you just have to discover this truth in your own time. I wish I had discovered it sooner. I wish I would have taken it more seriously. I'm grateful that I now understand the damage that lying to my child will do, so that I can stop myself before a white lie, or an exaggeration, or a boldface lie, comes out of my mouth. There is a difference between privacy and secrecy. It's okay to keep some things private. That's called a boundary. In my opinion, a much healthier alternative to lying and secrecy.
