Listening Mothers Program Overview

Week one: We will talk about the transition to parenthood.  How is your life different?  How do you cope? What is your support system like?  Is it how you expected it to be?  If not, how is it different?

Week two: We will discuss self regulation and baby regulation.  What is it and why is it important?  Additionally we will talk about building skills to increase mindfulness and self regulation. We also discuss what self regulation has to do with learning.

Week three: We will talk about the concept of ‘falling in love and falling out of love’ (rapture and repair).  Essentially this is the ebb and flow of parenting and how can we use it to strengthen bonding with our child. More mindful based skills will be explored to help deal with moments of disruptions and stress.

Week four: We will talk about EQ – emotional literacy, secure attachment as well as the ‘dependence verses autonomy dance.’ The foundation of secure attachment lies in attunment. We will continue to build skills of being ‘present.’

Week five: We will discuss the replay of attachment.  This includes talking about how it was growing up in your family and how does this influence your parenting style. We will also explore the concept of love.

Weeks six and seven: We will talk about couple relationships and take a fresh look at the concept of  intimacy. We will look at how mindful based stress reduction skills help overcome hurdles in relationship.
